Portland Walk Shopping Centre
Portland Walk is a medium sized shopping centre in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Constructed in 1998 on the site of the former Forshaw Street, it was designed as a modern extension to Dalton Road; Barrow's principal shopping district. Barrow's indoor market hall is also located adjacent to the southern entrance to the centre.〔(Barrow Markets )〕 Portland Walk has a total retail floor area of around and contains over 30 stores and services.〔(Portland Walk Investment Summary )〕 The complex is entirely open-air despite frequent proposals to cover it with a roof.〔(Plan For Portland Walk Roof )〕 A 500-space multi-storey car park provides direct access to it.
Portland Walk is anchored by one department store - Debenhams. Although every building within consists of two storeys, only Next, New Look, River Island, Topshop and Topman, WH Smith and Waterstones utilise both levels as sales floor space. Amongst other national retailers with a presence in Portland Walk are Boots, The Body Shop, Clarks, Clintons, EE, Game, Goldsmiths, The Officers Club, JD Sports, O2, Thorntons and Vodafone.
